A car before or after a cruise needs to fit both the passenger group and the bags carried ashore. Compare Odyssey and Palisade configurations with the Corolla Cross for a smaller party.
Start with the days you actually need a self-drive vehicle. Then explain the hotel, port and departure sequence, so a car rental is not confused with an included cruise transfer.
Separate a cruise transfer from a car rental
A rental means you drive the car for an agreed period. It is not a chauffeur transfer to the terminal. PortMiami’s official guidance says there are no on-site car rental agencies. No port counter, cruise shuttle or permission for terminal delivery is advertised here; a suitable handover is confirmed individually.
Plan for the bags that leave the ship
The group may travel with more luggage than a normal day trip. Compare the Odyssey and Palisade with the Corolla Cross using their actual seating and cargo views. Do not assume that a car with enough seats also fits every suitcase when those seats are occupied.
Use realistic arrival and return windows
Give the ship, date and expected availability after disembarkation, plus any onward flight. For a pre-cruise rental, agree the return before making terminal-transfer plans. A same-day schedule needs enough room for both the handover and your independent onward journey.

Will a rental car wait at my cruise terminal?
That is not promised. Request a handover plan and wait for the exact permitted location and timing to be confirmed.
Do you provide a free cruise shuttle?
No cruise shuttle is included or advertised. Any onward transport you need must be planned separately unless explicitly agreed.
Can I keep the rental while I am on the cruise?
You may ask for that full period, but rental time continues and parking is a separate consideration. Compare it with separate pre- or post-cruise dates before deciding.
You do not need to send payment-card details, passport copies or driving documents with the initial enquiry.

Rental terms
For PortMiami plans, distinguish days using the rental from a transfer to the ship. Give realistic luggage and meeting-time details for the whole group.
Deposit $500–$2,000. 100 miles/day · extra miles $3/mile. Drivers aged 24 and over. Insurance is included in the agreed rental or a suitable customer policy is used; the arrangement depends on the renter. Extensions can be arranged.
