Choosing a Rental Car for Easier Entry: A Mobility and Equipment Checklist

  1. Describe the movement, not only a diagnosis
  2. Check the entire journey
  3. Keep luggage in the calculation
  4. Choose only after the practical check

If getting into a car or loading mobility equipment may be difficult, describe the practical requirement before choosing a model. “We need a comfortable SUV” leaves too much unanswered. Seat height, door opening, steps and folded-equipment dimensions can matter more than the vehicle's category or price.

This checklist does not identify any Pugachev vehicle as wheelchair accessible or adapted. Ask the team whether a specific car can meet your requirements, and seek a suitable specialist service if the necessary equipment or assistance cannot be confirmed.

Describe the movement, not only a diagnosis

You can explain what needs to happen without sharing unnecessary medical details. For example: the passenger can transfer independently but needs a lower step; a folding wheelchair travels in the cargo area; or assistance is required at a particular point.

Ask who can provide any assistance and what they are equipped to do. Do not assume a chauffeur, rental agent or hotel employee can safely perform a transfer simply because they are present.

Practical requirementInformation to provide or request

Folding equipmentFolded length, width, height and weight
Remaining passengersSeats needed after equipment is loaded
Pickup locationKerb, steps, surface and space beside the vehicle

Check the entire journey

Assess both pickup and destination. A vehicle that is manageable on a level driveway may be awkward at a raised kerb or crowded loading area. Ask the hotel, marina or venue for its accessible entrance and meeting-point instructions.

If possible, arrange a viewing or obtain the specific measurements and current photographs needed to make the decision. A generic model photograph cannot establish the exact transfer space or loading opening.

Keep luggage in the calculation

Mobility equipment and holiday bags must fit at the same time. Share the complete load, including any equipment that must remain accessible during the trip. Do not assume a folded item can be placed on an occupied seat or left loose in the passenger area.

If a battery-powered device is involved, provide its relevant handling requirements and ask the transport provider what it can accommodate. Avoid disconnecting or dismantling equipment without the manufacturer's instructions and an agreed plan.

Choose only after the practical check

The SUV collection can help identify models to discuss, but a higher vehicle is not automatically easier for every passenger. The family car service team can receive a chauffeur enquiry where appropriate; describe access needs explicitly and confirm the actual vehicle and assistance.

Keep a written pickup plan with the meeting point, passenger contact, equipment dimensions and agreed responsibilities. If a key requirement remains unanswered, resolve it before booking rather than treating a broad assurance of “comfort” as a completed accessibility check.
